rounding off

Learning Objectives

Students would be able to round off numbers to the nearest tens, hundreds, thousands, and higher places as per the number system.

Activity 1: The Number Face-off

In this activity, keep a number grid and a pointer ready. The number grid can be chosen according to the grade level of the student. Point at random numbers and ask the child to round the number off to the nearest place (tens, hundreds, etc.). For every correct answer, they earn a green circle and a yellow circle for every incorrect attempt. At the end of the game, the score can be calculated as the number of red circles – the number of yellow circles. The game can be played as a multiplayer game as well.

Activity 2: The digital way

In this activity, the range of numbers can be chosen from the home screen. This operates on the principle of how do we display numbers on the number line and using the same to find the rounded-off number as the solution.

Activity 3: The Number Riddles

In this activity, simple riddles based on rounding off can be asked and the child has to find the rounded off number using the given hints.

Example: I am a number. I come between 455 and 462. I am even. When I am rounded to the nearest tens, what will I become?
